Holding Flowers

She could have tossed

the broken pieces away

swept up the shards

and let it be

over and done with

But that just wasn’t

her kind of way

She picked up every piece

laid them down

then one by one

placed them back in

best way she could

a little bit of super glue

a whole lot of patience

and there she had it

couldn’t hold sangria anymore

no more Texas tea

but she placed a mason jar

down inside

filled water to the brim

and the broken pitcher

was put to use

holding flowers

So much like her heart

she’s took those broken pieces

instead of turning bitter

holding grudges

acting ugly

throwing fits

making more to regret

she just lays down

opens up

reaches out

and gives

another chance

and finds herself

holding flowers.

Pirate ….door left open

He is a pirate
down in his soul
born two hundred years
too late

doesn’t matter
all that much
since he still lives
in wonder
anyways

He looks for treasures
in all kinds of places
flirts with women
of all ages and races
falls in love
despite his best intentions

It’s not such a deep
dark secret
how much he loves
the ocean
scotch, vodka and wine
a good rum
and a circle of friends

He walks with a swagger
of a man that knows
full well
he’s being watched
and he doesn’t care

he’s a pirate
down in his soul
born just in time
to make you wonder

what he would do
if he was given
half a chance
to set sail
again.

Glow

If only I could see me

the way you see me

everything would be different
I keep the lights on

because the darkness

hides your lips

and I can’t,

for the life of me,

 understand a word you say
But the same light

that lets me see

to read

shows everything

I wish I could keep

hidden in the dark
You see my imperfections

the scars on my body

the way time hasn’t

always been so kind
it’s a double edged sword

a battle that I fight

day in and night out

trying so damn hard

to see beauty in the ages

embrace the changes

to keep on dancing

with all the broken pieces

to glow in the light

and not hide in the dark
I look in the mirror

remembering so well

when the reflection

showed a different woman

a different time
if I could only see me

the way you see me

everything would be

so different
I would look beyond

the imperfections

straight to the heart

of the matter
and I just might be able

to glow in the dark

from the light in your eyes

Paulo and Me

Someday, we’ll forget the hurt, the reason we cried and who caused us pain..
And we’lll finally realize that the secret of being free is not revenge, but letting things unfold in their own way and own time.

PAULO COELHO

Someday we will remember
the goodness that came.
the beauty that had faded
the feelings we shared
and someday we’ll be grateful
even a bit amazed
that we were so very quick
to only see the bad
when there was good
in between
along the ragged edge.

The Hard Way

It had been a long time coming

But still it caught her by surprise

She let her guard down

Just a little

But it was enough

To show her once again

That her instincts were her guardians

Her intuition was her strength

In the chaos

And in the peace

The past, the present and the days yet to come

She had learned

The hard way

Not to go against

The whispers of her conscience

Tell-tale signs from her body

Sheltering her soul

Giving entrance only to the things and the people

That belonged

On her table

In her heart

Her space

Her life

Held

Cherished

Known

Loved

In their own ŵay

Sugars

He asked for what he wanted

With twinkling eyes

And a mischievous smile

“I want sugars”

He leaned forward

Placed his lips on mine

And gave sugars

Until he had all he wanted

For the moment

I wonder what life would be like

If we simply asked for what we wanted

And gave what we asked for in return

Isn’t it true

As I’ve often heard

That we give

What we wish we would get

We treat others

The way we would like

To be treated

If only people would pay attention

Look at what makes

Eyes twinkle

Mischievous smiles appear

All that sweet, sweet sugar

Just waiting for us

To lean forward

Covers

After all this time

She should be

 An old hand

Used to it by now

But ever now and then

She just has to

 Buckle down

Rearrange things

Create the night

Dinner for one

Glass of wine

Chick flick

A good book

Hot bath

Few words

One last sip

Another taste

Then, finally

 She can slide

Underneath the covers

Almost naked

Still wet

Completely alone

And  sleep

Holding on

To pillows and dreams
As if they would come true
