“Well, hello there! I’m so glad to see you here, again!
Come on in and have a seat so we can catch up a bit.
I’ve been expecting you and I’ve double checked your intake form for anything new I should know about.
Can you hear the music? I picked out this Spotify playlist just for you.
I hope it soothes your soul and brings up happy memories.
Does it smell the way you wanted? Lemongrass and jasmine?
How’s Glory been doing? I’m just tickled pink to see her sweet face!
Let’s take our sweet time and make this session perfect for you today.”
ROCKWALLIAN, I’m going to shoot straight with y’all once again, about like I always do.
I will make no apologies for the way I do things at Rockwall Body and Soul Massage. There’s a reason for everything and that’s all the way from the way my room is set up, the intake and payment online process and all the details that fall into place.
I’m half deaf, fully present, absolutely in love with bodywork and massage and I know who I am and what I can and can’t do.
I can’t take phone calls from random people…matter of fact I was one of the first to use the life changing technology known as ‘text messaging’.’
It was originally created to make life easier for the deaf and hard of hearing And now, all y’all hearing people rely on it, too!
That’s why I have online booking through my website, http://www.texasbestmassage.com because it’s better for both of us.
It just is.
Another thing, I’m not completely deaf. I don’t expect you to know sign language or to become a mime.
I actually read lips pretty dang good since I lost the majority of my hearing when I was only 5 but just in case I don’t catch everything, I set my phone on to AVA- an audio visual accessibility app-which basically turns talk into text in real time so I can glance over and make sure I got what you said.
I have a lamp shining light onto your face so I can read your lips and expression easily.
I sit close and I pay rapt attention. I’ll ask you to look at me because-let’s face it- many hearing people look at the their phones or at the walls instead of the eyes of the person they are talking to.
When you book a session with me, it’s a little different…and I make sure I explain that I listen really
well BEFORE the massage begins because I just can’t understand you when you’re face down or even when three room is dim and you’re face up.
I just can’t. That’s why your session with me is done without small talk- it’s not only better for your body and soul to relax to peace and quiet, it’s also assures I’m doing my best work and you’re getting the best massage you’ve ever had!
It’s that simple and your massage time doesn’t begin until my hands are actually on you doing work.
The time we spend sitting and talking is NOT counted as your massage time.
So your hands-on time is fully hands-on time-it’s that simple, too.
I spend a lot of time with Veterans,LEO and other First Responders. That’s my niche, my calling, my strong hold but I also love working with all people from all walks of life but here’s the deal- I’m not the therapist for everybody and everybody isn’t the client for me.
If my hearing loss bothers you, find another therapist.
If you want to have deep conversations during your massage, I’ll help you find a talkative therapist. If you are going to try to shame me or pull me down for something that I have made peace about a long, long time ago- well, I’m definitely not the one you want to get a massage from.
You see, I’m a survivor, too, and my deafness is just one part of me- a beautiful blessing that makes me appreciate all the good people that choose me over and over again.
People like Stan Powell with his amazing service dog, Glory, from Patriot PAWS Service Dogs.
People that choose to sit beside me and slow down and repeat when asked.
People that shoot straight with compassion and respect and understanding.
People that know what matters most.
So here it is-Sunday, December 1- I’ll love to sit with you, massage you, sell you gift certificates for the best massage experience you’ll ever did have .
I might not hear every word you say but I will listen with all my heart to everything that you don’t say and I’ll hold it in my heart.
I promise.
It’s that simple. — at Rockwall Body and Soul Massage.
