It’s me, that half- deaf woman again.. with a little PSA just in case y’all had no idea…and trust me, most of y’all don’t.

Please don’t talk to me behind my back- I mean, really, reach out and touch me first.
I get so many people telling me that they were trying to get my attention- by hollering, clapping or snapping their fingers- which doesn’t get my attention but might get others attention!😅
I’m not intentionally being rude when you walk beside me on the treadmills and try to engage me in conversation- I’ll go flying off if I turn to read your lips!😬

Oh, yes, another thing- please wait a hot minute if you see I’m clearly pre occupied- i had a guy touch my back while I was loading the dryer and I almost jumped right outta my skin. I can’t hear footsteps unless you’re wearing boots and spurs!🤠
And here’s a big one- if you’re standing in front of a window or door and the sunlight is behind you- guess what? You’ve got “Black face” and it’s impossible to read your lips. That’s why you’ll see me trying to navigate around you so that you’re not up against the light. This goes for lamps and overhead lightening that casts a shadow across your face.
Please, scoot a little closer, sit next to me, across from me – where we can touch. The further you are, the harder it is to catch what you’re saying.

Deafness is a blessing and a curse…I can’t carry on a conversation from another room- which means I get to give my full attention to whoever I’m with. I’m not ever half listening to a podcast and half listening to you- nope, you’ll have my undivided attention whether you realize it or not.
I do hear the music but I’m not catching all the lyrics so if you’ll lip sync along, I’ll be tickled to pieces!🤗.
Please don’t leave me- or other deaf people- out… If y’all are talking and laughing and you see the question in my eyes that I clearly don’t understand, please don’t say, “It’s nothing, just never mind.” That’s downright ugly…snd it hurts.
So when you see me standing out yonder, push those mirrored sunglasses off and touch me and lets sit down and talk all about life! Mirrored sunglasses- actually ALL sunglasses hide your eyes and expressions and I need to see those to help me “read” you.
