Yesterday morning, on my way to work, it was drizzling rain as I rode with my Uber driver and I glanced over at him and said, “ The rain always makes me think of songs like the only that goes ‘Holy Spirit, rain down, rain down.”

He looked at me, questionably, so I flipped to Spotify and started playing the song

Holy Spirit
Rain Down
Let Your power fall
Let Your voice be heard
Come and change our hearts
As we stand on Your word
Holy Spirit
Rain down

The two of us sat in comfortable silence, listening and lifting our hands as he drove through the rain.

Then he asked me, “ Do you go to church?” and I smiled and shook my head, “ I wish I could say I do but I don’t. I watch Life Church or Lakepointe online, but since I can’t drive while waiting on this injury to heal, I don’t go anywhere except work.”

He shook his head in understanding and pulled into my work and before I walked away, he thanked me for the song and the time.

Later as I went about my morning, getting things ready and selecting more music, his words hit me differently.

“Do you go to church?”

How I wish I could ride with him again and say this,

“Oh, my friend, Natty, WE were the church this morning. In your car, this half deaf Texan woman sitting right next to you, an immigrant from Africa, sharing gospel, talking about Jesus and the weather and being kind to each other.

We were IN church in your spotless Honda, driving from Fate to Rockwall, weaving in and out of traffic and watching the rain fall .

When you pulled in front of the rock path to my studio, we both laughed because the skies cleared just in time for me to walk inside and not get soaking wet.

God is in the details- every little bitty detail- and every time He catches us having church, He gets a kick out of it and I can almost hear Him say, “Now, THAT’S what I’m talking about!”

Go be the church today. You just never know what He’s got planned!
