The door was open
the invitation given
So she peeked inside
Before she pushed the door ajar
Crossed the threshold
At first it seemed
like a good place to be
to sit and talk
enjoy company
share a drink
maybe even a meal
But in the corner of her eye
she could see edges of an old familiar green
just enough to make
her choose her words carefully
watch where she sat
and what she touched
And so, she made the decision
to walk right back
Cross the threshold
take one last peek
and shut the door
turn away the invitation
that had been given.
