the day it happened

a change that finally

told her that things 

would wind up turning out

better than she dared

to believe for so long

On this day

words had been said

that she needed to hear

and she held them

in her heart:

she had hoped

against what she knew best

that this day

would have been marked

set apart

but instead

it was just another day
