Just Like You

Brown eyes

Looked straight at my own

Talking about bathing suits

Pools and beaches

Bikinis and one-pieces

“I’m just like you,Momma”

Things might fit

But I don’t feel pretty

I’m not the way I used to be

Things have changed

So has my body

I look at the mirror

And all I can see

Is the things I need to change

She is just like me

Long legs, curvy hips

Flat stomach

After all those kids

Strong tanned arms

The collar bones that set us both apart

I see all the beauty in her

That she says she sees in me

“I’m just like you,Momma”

I have to agree

Watch the things I claim about myself

They seem to come back

Hit me right between the eyes

“I’m just like my daughter and she’s just like me.”
